Where TCTI's tourism data comes from and how official datasets connect to the indicators displayed across the platform.
The Contemporary Tourist Intelligence does not create its own substitute statistics when official data is available. We organize tourism records published by recognized statistical organizations while preserving their source, dataset, reporting year, and methodological context.
Source Strategy
Tourism statistics are distributed across international organizations, regional statistical agencies, and national authorities. No single source provides the newest and most detailed version of every tourism indicator for every country.
TCTI is therefore designed as a multi-source platform. Each indicator can be supported by one or more official datasets, allowing the platform to use the strongest available record without losing the history or attribution of alternative official observations.
Source selection depends on the statistic being measured. Authority, definition, geographic coverage, reporting year, verification status, and dataset quality can all influence which observation is presented.
Active Sources
During beta, TCTI's active source integrations are centered on the World Bank and Eurostat. Coverage will expand as additional official sources are integrated.
The World Bank provides broad international coverage for tourism and development indicators. TCTI currently uses World Bank tourism series for several core international tourism measures.

ST.INT.XPND.CDEurostat provides detailed tourism statistics for European countries. Its datasets allow TCTI to go beyond headline international tourism measures and examine accommodation activity, capacity, resident tourism, and other destination-level indicators.

Data Architecture
TCTI separates the organization publishing a statistic from the dataset containing it and the indicator presented to users. This preserves the structure and provenance of the original data.

Coverage
Official sources do not provide identical geographic coverage. The World Bank provides broad global coverage, while Eurostat publishes substantially more detailed tourism statistics for countries participating in the European statistical system.
As a result, some European country dashboards may currently contain more indicators than destinations in other regions. This reflects the official datasets available to TCTI during beta rather than a decision to prioritize one destination over another.
Coverage will become broader as additional global, regional, and national statistical sources are integrated.
Source Priority
When multiple official sources provide observations for the same tourism indicator, TCTI evaluates which record is most appropriate for that specific metric.
Selection can consider source authority, indicator definition, geographic coverage, reporting year, verification status, and dataset quality. The preferred observation can change when a stronger official record becomes available.
Alternative and historical official records remain preserved rather than being deleted when the preferred observation changes.

The following organizations are part of TCTI's planned multi-source architecture. They are shown here for transparency and should not be interpreted as active data integrations during beta.
